Common Tactics
- Claiming to investigate a gas/water leak.
- Asking for help or a drink of water.
- Pretending to be in an emergency.
- Working in pairs, with one distracting while another enters.
How to Protect Yourself
- Use a door viewer or chain.
- Always check ID and verify it using a trusted phone number.
- Close the door while making checks.
- Arrange for callers to return when someone else is with you.
- Consider setting up a password scheme with utility companies.
Remember: If in doubt, keep them out.
